Montlake Lid & Portage Bay Bridge
Review Status
After a series of subcommittee and full Commission briefings on the Portage Bay Bridge and Montlake Lid throughout the summer in 2014, we summarized our recommendations in a memorandum and gave a presentation to the City Council in September. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) also has an archive of project materials.
Project Description
WSDOT is replacing the interchanges and roadway of State Route 520 between I-5 in Seattle and the eastern end of the floating bridge.
WSDOT, City of Seattle, and the Design Commission worked together to refine the westside design of the SR 520 corridor through the Seattle Community Design Process. At the end of that process, the Seattle City Council passed Resolution 31427 regarding design preferences identified in the Seattle Community Design Process.
The Portage Bay Bridge and Montlake Lid are two elements of this corridor that are the main focus of the current reviews. We are providing design recommendations to WSDOT and the City that will help WSDOT develop cost estimates for the remaining SR 520 corridor work. Those cost estimates will be used to help WSDOT request additional project funding in the 2015 legislative session.
